Austin’s parents and Doctors are both thrilled with his progress. He is now tube free and a tad over 12 lbs. Austin is all signed up for October 29th where he will be undergoing the Glenn procedure down at Children’s Hospital in Phoenix. The Glenn procedure connects the superior vena cava to the pulmonary artery, after the Blalock-Taussig shunt is separated. This allows more blood flow through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs. It also serves as a basis for the final surgery, the Fontan procedure.
For now, Austin still loves taking walks to the park where he enjoys watching baseball games and football practices. Occasionally he even jumps on a swing with Dad for a few minutes. Although optomistic at the start of the season, Austin has become bored watching the Seahawks on Sunday and prefers throwing in his Wiggles DVD for entertainment. For Austin, nothing beats the Wiggles performance of “The Big Red Car.”
Austin’s favorite video. “The Big Red Car.”

The “Big Red Car” is a classic song. One of the best. I still love it, even at five years old!
Here we come! Your pictures are so cute that we really need to see you in person. Besides that, we’re missing you.
Expect lots of hugs and attention come Oct. 16th! We Love You, Nana andPapa
Dear Austin,
You are nothing short of smashingly handsome! Thank you for sending out the very smart photos of you in varying positions of repose. I especially like the one where you’re raising your hand to ask permission to soil your diaper (or are you stretching after a cozy nap?).
My prayers are continually with you and your parents, and I just know that on the 29th, when you undergo surgery, Jesus will be holding you and your surgical staff will be at the peak of their medical skills.
Blessings on you, dear little boy!

You have been given a very special gift in this extraordinary child. We just know that the Great Healer will guide the hands of the surgical team on October 29th. We will take our prayers to the Throne and ask for a complete and speedy recovery for Austin.
