Today was a big day for the little man. We were out the door by 6:45 am and the nurses whisked Austin away to the operating room by 8:00 am for his scheduled Glenn procedure with Dr. Pearl and his homies. At about 1:45 pm we were able to talk to the good doctor and he was very happy with the outcome of the surgery. He said he’s pretty sure, well at least relatively sure…. Ok, if he was a betting man, he would wager that all the plumbing got hooked up correctly and the fittings are holding as planned.
Currently, Austin is relaxing in the Intensive Care Unit while his highly skilled team is constantly tweaking medications, administering blood transfusions, running tests, entering data into the computer, and answering the endless questions coming from Austin’s parents (mostly his mom). Some examples of questions from Austin’s mom include: ”What are you doing?” “Now what are you doing?” ”What are you doing now?” Then the cycle seems to start over with “What are you doing?”
Meanwhile, I sit with pops in the corner of the room while he explains the anatomy of the heart. Ocassionally he will pause and look up to see if I’m still tracking. Upon seeing my “deer caught in the headlights expression,” he starts all over.
The next few days should be touch and go with getting Austin’s refurbished ticker all dialed in, but with any luck he could be back home in about 5-10 days. We will keep you in the loop with updates thoroughout the week, but we couldn’t be happier with Austin’s condition at this time.
I’ve included a few pictures a day or two prior to Austin going in for surgery. He wasn’t feeling too photogenic tonight, but wanted to make sure that I showed off his Halloween costume on the blog.
Glad all went well! We love you little man!
Love,
The Taylor Family
So happy to hear Austin is out of surgery and things went well……………………you of course are in our prayers!
So happy to hear Austin’s surgery went so well. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family!
You are so popular Austin. Our phone has been ringing off the hook since we returned from the hospital. After reading your Daddy’s rendition of the day, we should have just referred them to your blog. He made the day sound like lots of fun! We will see you in the morning. Love you, Nana and Papa
Oh, what adorable pictures! I woke up this morning with you all on my mind, knowing that this was a big day. We are so thankful for answered prayer, and that all is well tonight. As I thought of the intricate work that the surgeon’s hands were doing, I was so grateful that God gifts certain people to do such fine work!
so happy to hear that the surgery went well. austin sure is an ADORABLE guy… love the new pictures. what a lucky guy to have you two as parents.
In these newest pictures, Austin looks about five years old. He’s so mature!!! No wonder he sails through these pesky surgeries with such flying colors! Thank you, Barry, for your witty way of keeping us updated. I loved your rendition of Karla’s strategy…it sounds amazingly like mine in similar situations!
God’s blessings on all of you as you slog through this time of waiting. May God give you His peace that passes all understanding as you keep your faces lifted to Him!
My love and prayers!

(If I knew how, I’d attach pictures of my seven precious grandchildren for you to show Austin when he gets home!)
I mean “Karla’s QUESTIONING strategy!” (You knew that!)
Oh my! That little Austin is one cute little boy. He is unmistakably your son. Same exact smile.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen you, Barry, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think of you often-and with a smile. I had lunch with Steve the other day and he told me Austin’s story. I am praying your precious little boy, and for you and Karla too.
Blessings,
Phil
Barry, Karla & Austin,
YEA!!!! Austin is such a strong kiddie. He should be dressed as Superman today for Halloween. Good job Austin, Karla, Barry & Doctor.
We are so glad to hear that your surgery went well and look forward to hearing that you are back home again real soon. You are all in our prayers. By the way Austin, we think you look like your mom and bet you’ll have the same inquisitive mind!!
Love and prayers, Elaine, Yogi and Rob
Wow! Finally, we get a chance to take a look at the website…being the “country cousins” and almost the only people in the world who still have dial up, we have not been able to see Austin for awhile..(currently, we are in the “big city” trick-or-treating with the city cousins). We are so happy to hear the surgery went well. The pictures are awesome. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Those pictures are priceless! What an adorable little man. We’re thrilled to hear that the surgery went as planned and that Austin is proving himself to be as strong as his parents. The whole family is in our prayers!!
